Jamie Carragher has told Liverpool’s Arne Slott: “He has to try” and urged the Reds manager to “put himself in Carlo Ancelotti’s shoes”.
Manchester United won their first game at Anfield in nearly a decade, helping to push Slott’s side into a crisis largely of their own making, but Liverpool dropped their fourth game on the bounce on Sunday.
Brian Mbeumo opened the scoring for the visitors in the first minute, while Codi Gakpo equalized for Liverpool before Harry Maguire secured the three points with a late header.

Slott made a series of attacking substitutions in situations like the last 30 minutes, with Florian Wertz and Curtis Jones playing as a supposedly defensive-minded pair behind the front four in midfield.
A number of Liverpool’s players have suffered dramatic slumps this season, with Hugo Ekitike being the only one of his summer signings worth £420m to match the quality he promised when he joined the club.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher insisted off-season signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak represented a “Real Madrid deal” rather than a set normally associated with Liverpool.

The Liverpool legend therefore suggested that Slott should emulate what Ancelotti has done so well over the years and consider changing his formation and style to suit the quality footballers regularly signed by the big clubs he manages.
Coach Carragher voted for Ekitike’s front four to play behind Mohamed Salah on the right, Wirtz on the left and Isak in the centre.

Coach Carragher said of his selections: “He’s focused specifically on attack, (Alexander) Isak and (Ugo) Ekitike, at some stage he’s got to try to make it work.”
“I think Arne Slott almost needs to be the manager of Real Madrid. Maybe he should put himself in the position of Carlo Ancelotti, who had to make big-money signings every summer, whether it was Chelsea, Real Madrid or AC Milan, and make them work.”
“A perfect example of that is winning the Champions League a few seasons ago with Karim Benzema, the Ballon d’Or winner, as a striker. Benzema goes to Saudi Arabia and ends up playing with (Jude) Bellingham as a false nine. It’s a completely different way of doing things.”
