Johannesburg (AP) – Tens of thousands of South African comic book fans and cosplayers gathered Johannesburg On Saturday we celebrate the sixth edition of Comic-Con Africa, the biggest celebration of continental pop culture and gaming.
The four-day festival, which began on Thursday, celebrated anime, games, comics, cosplay, and a variety of entertainment including vintage arcade games, esports, costume competitions and more.
Fans dressed in their favorite comic book heroes and villains, snapped selfies to replicas of famous local sets, and wore costumes of original characters inspired by their own imagination.
“This year’s Comic-Con was bigger and bolder than ever,” said Carla Massmann, show director for Comic-Con Africa, and expects a total of 70,000 fans to walk the gate by Sunday.
Nkosinathi Skhosana, 24, was called Comic-Con Africa because it was another “safe space” where South Africans of all races and classes could forget about social issues and enjoy themselves together.
“Just just as rugby brings people of all races together, Comic-Con is creating that kind of space for us,” says Skhosana.
The main stage includes Jessie T. Usher from the Amazon Prime series The Boys. Actor, comedian and writer Dan Fogler was also present. Harry Potter spinoff “Fantastic Beast” And Misha Collins is best known for her role as Castiel in “Supernatural.”
Fans were pleased to have dealt with the autograph and photography opportunities with international stars, but they gushed over each other’s outfits.
“The first photo I took was my favorite character, Sailor Moon,” said Owami Shivaniyani, 23, who dressed up the animation franchise Musa.”
This event, which normally takes place at the end of September, was moved to August to create a path. G20 SummitIt will be held at the same venue later this year.
