Spotify announced Tuesday that it will make Managed Accounts, a shared account feature that lets parents control what their kids listen to, available to users in more countries. Managed Accounts is currently being rolled out in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands following a pilot last year.
Managed accounts are available to members of the Spotify Premium Family Plan and allow account holders to individually manage music-only listening experiences for children under 13.
These accounts are separate, so your child’s music choices don’t influence the algorithm or factor into their annual Spotify Wrapped experience. Kids can favorite songs, create their own playlists, and make their own recommendations.
Managed accounts allow parents to restrict access to certain features for content labeled as explicit content, such as watching videos, playing content, and viewing canvas videos, which are looped visuals that appear while music plays. Parents can also control and restrict the playback of specific artists and songs.
Managed accounts also limit interactive features, so children can’t access age-restricted features like Messages.
Managed accounts give parents the ability to make more decisions about the type of music their children can listen to without forcing them to use the highly restrictive Spotify Kids app.
To set up a Managed Account, Family Plan account holders must go to their account page in the app, select the “Add Members” option, then select the “Add Listeners Under 13 (or Market Equivalent)” option, and follow the instructions to navigate through the various options.

Spotify managed accounts are already available in New Zealand, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia.
The wide launch comes amid broader efforts by major technology companies to give parents more control over how their children use online platforms and what features they can access in response to regulatory pressures.
