Automaker Stellantis and Chinese self-driving car company Pony Eye have signed a non-binding agreement to build robotaxis for deployment in Europe.
The partnership will integrate Pony’s self-driving software into the Stellantis medium-duty electric van platform, which is equipped with advanced sensors to support self-driving vehicles.
The companies will initially introduce a test vehicle based on the Peugeot e-Traveller model. Testing will begin in the coming months in Pony’s European headquarters, Luxembourg, with plans to roll out more vehicles in European cities starting in 2026.
The partnership comes months after Pony announced a partnership with Uber to expand into international markets, including Europe and the Middle East. It also comes after the company received permission from Luxembourg to test self-driving cars in April.
Pony.ai is looking to expand beyond its existing market in China and develop market share in Europe, and is also eyeing a second IPO. Pony, which is already listed on the Nasdaq, is also aiming for a secondary listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
