Ben Jacobs says midfielder Adam Wharton, linked to Man UTD, has a “gentleman agreement” with Crystal Palace. This means he can leave the club next summer.
Wharton has been impressed with the palace since signing from Blackburn Rovers in January 2023/24 Transfer Window.
His outstanding form for the Eagles, who first bought for £18 million, has skyrocketed his value to 45 million euros (£39 million) on the transfer mark, but the palace may only be able to enjoy at least £60 million worth.
Wharton made his England debut in June 2024 and was rewarded in his excellent form in his position with Gareth Southgate’s team at the European Championships last summer.
The 21-year-old didn’t feature on the three Lions who lost the final to Spain despite fierce cries from supporters to watch him play.

Wharton showed an elite mentality bouncing off international disappointment with an incredible 2024/25 campaign, helping the Palace win the FA Cup and win 12th in the Premier League.
He was a key player under Oliver Glasner, losing Ebele Eze to Arsenal in the summer transfer window after Eze scored the only goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
After the move to Liverpool fell, Glasner embraced club captain Mark Guech, and Jean Philippe Mateta and Wharton also stayed at Selhurst Park.
Wharton was linked to the summer travel, but none of the interests reported by Man Utd came to fruition.
However, Wharton “has a gentleman’s agreement and will be able to leave Crystal Palace next summer,” according to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, who says the end of this season looks realistic.
At the United Stands, when asked if Liverpool were interested in signing UTD-linked Brighton midfielder Carlos Valleva, Jacobs dropped a transfer bomb about the palace and British youth.
“I really don’t know that Liverpool is particularly pushing towards deep midfielders,” he said. “If Liverpool adds, it could be something like an offensive midfielder.
“They know there is a demand for it, like Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba.
“My understanding with Wharton is that there is an agreement for this kind of gentleman who can leave Crystal Palace next summer.
“Eberechi Eze was allowed to leave even after the release clause expires, even if it wasn’t his release clause.
Jacobs also says that Man Utd could add two midfielders next summer after he didn’t land a £100 million rated Baleba.
“And I think there could be two people coming in alongside Manchester United and the senior midfielder,” he added.
“Maybe Valeva and Wharton, or two other senior midfielders? Nonetheless. First of all, because Casemiro still managed to leave despite finding favor under Reuben Amorim.
