Netflix had a new TV Top 10 leader last week with the debut of The Four Seasons.
The eight-episode adaptation of Alan Alda and Carol Burnett’s 1981 romantic comedy scored 11.9M views in its first weekend of availability, after premiering on May 1. That’s a strong start for the The Four Seasons, which faced some tough competition due to the return of one of Netflix’s incredibly popular series, You.
However, it seems You has been off to a much slower start since it returned for its fifth and final season. Season 5 racked up 10.9M views from April 28 to May 4, which marked its first full week on the streamer. That’s up only slightly from its debut weekend, when it managed 10.1M views. As Deadline pointed out last week, Season 5’s premiere weekend was down compared to Season 4A and 4B. That remains true as Season 5 continues to track below the previous season.
Still, there is somewhat of a buzz surrounding Joe Goldberg’s return, considering that Season 1 of You was back on the charts for the second consecutive week with 2.8M views, which was good enough for fifth place.
You performed about just as well as the Argentinian post-apocalyptic series The Eternaut, which debuted with 10.8M views.
Elsewhere in English-language TV, Black Mirror took sixth place with 2.5M views, while Turning Point: The Vietnam War made its debut at No. 10 with 2.1 million views.
Adolescence also put up another 2.3M views, putting it at No. 7 as it continues its quest to oust Stranger Things 4 from second place on Netflix’s Most Popular English TV list. It seems highly likely that the UK limited series will manage the feat in the next two weeks, as it now stands at 136.3M views, leaving it with just over 4M views to close the gap.
Once again, Havoc was the top English title with 26.5M views, retaining its spot at No. 1 on the English films list. But, the German film Exterritorial was this leader of the pack last week with 38.3M views.
