EXCLUSIVE: Golden Globe nominee Eva Longoria has signed on to star opposite Maia Reficco in The Last Sunrise, Amazon MGM’s adaptation of the bestselling romance novel by After series author Anna Todd, on which we were first to report.
Longoria will play Isolde, the protective mother of Reficco’s character, Ry. The project puts Longoria back in business with Amazon MGM Studios on the heels of The Pickup, an action comedy where she stars opposite Eddie Murphy that just debuted on Prime Video. She’s also set to appear in the studio’s holiday flick Oh. What. Fun. from Michael Showalter, which is out on Prime Video on December 3rd.
Set in Majorca, The Last Sunrise follows 22-year-old Oriah “Ry” Pera (Reficco), whose life has been shaped by chronic illness and a well-meaning but overbearing mom. When a summer relocation gives her a taste of freedom, she meets Julián, who draws her into the kind of adventure she’s always longed for. But with a return to the U.S. on the horizon, Ry faces a decision that could change everything.
Carlson Young (Upgraded) is directing from a script adapted by Anna Klassen. Todd is producing alongside Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay of Ethea Entertainment, Lena Roklin of Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Brian Pitt of Pitt Street Productions.
Most recently, Longoria has been seen in CNN’s original series Eva Longoria: Searching for Spain, which she produced through her company Hyphenate Media Group, and in The Pickup. Upcoming, as an actress, she also has the Gurinder Chadha film Christmas Karma.
Recently getting behind the camera to make her feature directorial debut with Flamin’ Hot — the first film to debut simultaneously stateside on Hulu and Disney+, which is Searchlight’s most-watched streaming movie ever — she’s currently working on expanding her Searching For franchise at CNN with Eva Longoria: Searching For France. She’s also set to direct the Netflix film Fifth Wheel, starring Kim Kardashian, and reteam with Searchlight on Anita De Monte Laughs Last, based on the novel of the same name by Xochitl Gonzalez.
Longoria is represented by WME, Linden Entertainment, and Yorn Levine.
