The Perfect Couple is becoming an anthology. Following the success of the limited series, starring and executive produced by Nicole Kidman and directed and executive produced by Susanne Bier, Netflix is developing a second installment.
Like the first season, the followup will be based on Nantucket-set book by best-selling author Elin Hilderbrand, the novel Swan Song.
In Swan Song, a 22-million-dollar summer home is purchased by the mysterious Richardsons who throw lavish parties, flirt with multiple locals, flaunt their wealth with not one but two yachts, and raise impossible hopes of everyone they meet. When their house burns to the ground and their most essential employee goes missing, the entire island is up in arms.
The new season will have a new writer/showrunner, Joanna Calo, with most of the executive producing team returning, including Kidman, Bier, Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, Nicole Kidman, Per Saari and Hend Baghdady.
Preliminary casting has started for the two lead roles, Leslee and Bill Richardson, spiritual successors to Season 1’s Greer (Kidman) and Tag (Liev Schreiber) Winbury. Reps for Netflix declined comment.
