‘The Pradeeps Of Pittsburgh’ Canceled By Prime Video After One Season

EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video has opted not to renew The Pradeeps Of Pittsburgh for a second season. The news comes more than three months after the eight-episode first season of the immigrant comedy, starring Naveen Andrews, Sindhu Vee, and Megan Hilty, was released on Amazon Freevee.

It is not entirely surprising because The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, which drew comparisons to ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat, did not make much noise among viewers despite largely favorably reviews (75% on Rotten Tomatoes)

There were outside factors in play, too. The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh was one of several shows lost in the shuffle as the the free, ad-supported Freevee, which had a comedy identity thanks to shows like Jury Duty, was shut down a couple of weeks after The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh‘s launch. Along with the rest of the Freevee slate, the series made the transition to Prime Video, a larger and more drama-focused platform where it’s harder for a smaller, low-key show like The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh to stand out.

The last outstanding Freevee original comedy series, Clean Slate, just launched on Prime Video this week.

Created by Vijal Patel, The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh was inspired by his personal experiences. The modern-day immigrant story follows the Pradeep family and the humorous events of their first few months after moving to America from India.

Sahana Srinivasan, Arjun Sriram, Ashwin Sakthivel, Ethan Suplee and Nicholas Hamilton also starred. The series was produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Patel served as showrunner and executive produced alongside Sara Gilbert, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, and Jordana Mollick. Michael Showalter of Semi-Formal Productions was also an executive producer and directed the opening episode.
