Tottenham was able to move for one of three playmakers after James Madison suffered from what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the preseason.
The Spurs star was stretched in tears in the second half of a 1-1 draw with Newcastle. Manager Thomas Frank revealed that “bad injuries” are on the same knee as he watched England International at the end of last season.

With Madison set up a long absence, Frank and Tottenham are now even more desperate than before to land a new offensive midfielder, failing to pinch Morgan Gibbs White from Nottingham Wood early in the window.
Talksport transfer expert Alex Crook has chosen three players who can explore the moves Spurs will fill out for Maddison. First up is Jack Grelish from Manchester City.
“Jack Grelish was the topic of conversation at Spurs at the beginning of the summer,” Crook said.
Tottenham also linked with Crystal Palace’s Ebeki Eze before Arsenal stated their interest, and could potentially return for the 27-year-old as a result of Madison’s injuries.
Crook said: “I think when Arsenal came to the table, Tottenham retreated because he was afraid he would be hijacked by his North London rival.”
Crook also nominated Harvey Elliott as a possible addition to the Spurs, believing he is a “very Thomas Frank type signature.”
“When it comes to Spurs, it’s actually Harvey Elliott from Liverpool,” Crook added.
“He is another player Liverpool willing to cash in, and he had an incredible summer leading England under the age of 21 in the glory of the European Championship.
“He’s not cheap. I think the offer price is about £40 million, probably north of that. But obviously they were willing to pay Gibbswhite £60 million.
“And he hit me as a very Thomas Frank type signature.”

Meanwhile, Spurs have reached an agreement with LAFC about the relocation of his son Heung-Min, who will leave the club with 173 goals and 101 assists in 454 games.
“Before I started the press conference, I wanted to say I decided to leave the club this summer,” my son said Saturday. “With respectfulness, the club is helping with this decision.
“It was the most difficult decision I made in my career. These amazing memories. It was very difficult to make a decision.
“I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little change. Ten years is a long time. I came to North London as a 23-year-old child.
