The “Trent Alexander Arnold Can’t Defend” argument is not just a rekindled out by the omission of the former Liverpool star from the latest England team.
British boss Thomas Tuschel raised his eyebrows as he snuggled Real Madrid’s right-back for World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, choosing instead to Tottenham’s DJED Spence, Chelsea’s Reese James and Newcastle’s Tino Revarament.
Explaining his decision, Tuchel said: “I’m a huge fan of Torrent, because of his talent and personality.
“He’s always a great player to compete with. He wants to be here. This is very important. He just chose other people to compete.”
Naturally, the absence of Alexander Arnold has become a hot topic on the sticks of the football podcast. Jamie Carrager linked the snub to Arneslot’s comments before the 25-year-old left Anfield and left Anfield on a free transfer.
The Liverpool boss said: “I’m not completely satisfied with everything I see from training. In my opinion, at one moment, he can say it gently, and that’s what we’ve said.

Carragher said “dig a little deeper,” adding, “he said something along the line: ‘If you give Xabi Alonso a little advice, you might need to train a little torrent.”
After living in the shadow of Kyle Walker in England for many years, Alexander Arnold finds himself fighting Spence, James and Librament for a few minutes now, and Tuchel prefers players he trusts defensively.
Gary Neville admitted that Alexander Arnold could be benched for Walker at his peak when he was holding Killian Mbappe and Vinicius juniors in his pocket. But Livramento and Spence are just too much of a step.
“I think I was half-accepting that when Walker had Mbappe and Vinicius out of the game and was flying three or four years ago,” Neville said.
“You think: ‘Okay, I got it. Kyle is one of the best fullbacks in the world.” Then you had Reese James behind him, so you had Trippier who could do left and right backs (Keylan) so you were buying almost half to the idea that Torrent is a sub.
“Trent is currently left behind by Librament and DJed Spence. Let’s be clear.”
However, Karager quickly defended the man in Newcastle. “The Librament is a good fullback.
“It doesn’t matter what we’re saying. Back to that quote. What the manager is saying, what it matters to him, and what he’s thinking later in the tournament.”
Carragher believes that Tuchel was sending a message to Alexander-Arnold rather than shutting the door completely.
“He says what you’ve said and what we all said, and maybe he’s sending a message to Trent. He has to be more serious about his advocacy,” he said.
“He says that there, he’s thinking about the impact of the European Cup and league where Trent won with (Jurgen) Klopp in Liverpool.
“That’s not a criticism. They’re both really good fullbacks and I think I’m a huge fan of Livlament. That could be the case for managers who say, ‘Trent, I love you, but come on!” ”
