To keep users up and increase engagement, Tinder has overhauled some of its existing features into a new, redesigned “mode” along with a new home screen update.
This app gets two new modes, double date and university mode (basically an extension of existing features). This is the “For You” mode on the home screen that shows the classic Tinder experience. The company said it would add a date mode that leaned towards interests, dating intents and different ways of connecting.
In June, Tinder launched double date mode. This allows users to pair with friends and match other pairs. This feature is limited to the specific region at the time of launch and the company is currently deploying globally. Tinder said since July it has seen users send more than 25% of messages per match compared to one-on-one chat.
College mode, on the other hand, is based on existing Tinder U features. It was introduced in 2018 so that adult students can register using their university or university email IDs and find potential matches on or around campus. Last year, the company updated its features so that students could update their profiles to include details such as graduation year, majors, clubs, and Greek life. College mode allows students to match with others everywhere.
“Gen Z craves an easier and lower voltage way to connect, as things that interest you can change every day. Users are listening loudly and clearly.
Tinder’s parent company match group mentioned these dating modes in its second quarter revenue call last month.
Tinder said the redesign and double date feature is rolling out globally, but college mode will be available to compatible users later in the fall.
