Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do, The Summer I Turned Pretty) has joined the cast of Prime Video‘s Legally Blonde prequel series Elle, executive produced by the film franchise’s star Reese Witherspoon.
From creator Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure), Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman in the first Legally Blonde film.
In a series regular role, Scott will star as Elle’s dad ‘Wyatt.” He will work opposite Lexi Minetree who plays the titular teen and June Diane Raphael as his wife Eva. In the original film, Wyatt was played by James Read, who alongside his wife tried to dissuade Elle from attending Harvard.
Showrunners Kittrell and Caroline Dries executive produce with Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter of Hello Sunshine and the films’ producer Marc Platt. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is directing the first two episodes. Elle is produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios.
Scott most recently starred in Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty in the show’s first two seasons and the films Clouds, Sister of the Groom, and Finding You. He is perhaps best known for playing drummer ‘Guy Patterson’ in the Tom Hanks-directed That Thing You Do!, his feature debut.
Notable TV credits also include Law & Order, Will & Grace, Sons of Anarchy, ER, Southland, Z Nation, How To Get Away With Murder, Reign, Scream, 13 Reasons Why and The Healing Powers of Dude.
Scott is represented by Gersh and John Carrabino Management
