Spain reports that Tottenham Hotspur has emerged as an option for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.
Araujo had signed a contract in Catalonia until 2031, and signed a long-term extension in January.
Uruguayan International has made its first team debut in October 2019 and has made its 175 appearances for Blaugrana.
The injury has disrupted the 26 year old in recent seasons. He featured only 12 times in Barcelona’s La Liga-Winning campaign, and made 25 appearances in all competitions, but only started 17 times.
Araujo has been the subject of transfer speculation for many years and has emerged as the top target for Manchester United and Chelsea in 2022. Despite signing the latest extension that will tie him together until 2031, he continues to link with United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester cities.
A new club is now joining the mix. Tottenham is preparing for the 2025/26 season under new head coach Thomas Frank.

The former Brentford boss will lead the Spurs to the Champions League after Ange Postecoglou’s team won the Europa League in May. His first competitive game will face European champion Paris Saint-Germain at the UEFA Super Cup on August 13th.
West Ham’s Winger Mohamed Kudus has previously signed Frank’s marquee, but the Spurs have also confirmed the permanent signatures of former Loans Matistel and Kevin Danso.
Additionally, Bayern Munich midfielder Joa Parghínja is expected to take part in the loan with the option to buy for around £25 million, who has already completed medical care.
Spurs ‘Transfer Business is not expected to end with this. The club is currently linked to Araujo’s surprising moves.
According to Spanish outlet Fichejes, the Spurs are “able to move for Araujo,” and are expected to be able to move in the summer.
The Uruguayan claims he is going through difficult times in his career, and Barcelona is not aware of his current situation,” and the Spurs are reportedly hoping to make use of it.
Araujo is said to be “no longer in control” because it “caused doubt” about his recent performance. As a result, the Barcelona board of directors is “starting to consider selling if a compelling offer arrives.”
Tottenham holds “the most serious interest” at the centreback and is reportedly “made the first move to test his signature.”
The report argues that Araujo claims that it “complies with the bill” is a “physical and authoritative profile” for what Frank wants from his defender.
Despite being one of Barcelona’s vice captains, Araujo could be open to travel, with sources close to players “not rule out changes in the scenery.”
He is still expected to order a significant fee. This is one of the main reasons why Barca accepts offers.
According to the report, “The London Project offers him the challenge of continuity, playing time and new competitive challenges in the league that has proven ideal for his style.”
