It has been reported that the Tottenham player could stay on beyond January despite saying yes to a move in January. Spurs keep him at the club for two reasons.
The Spurs have fared better this season than last season. They were 17th in the Premier League last season, but new manager Thomas Frank has moved them to 6th after 10 games.
Since losing to Chelsea last time, we have dropped a few places. Tottenham have had no trouble scoring goals, scoring 17 goals so far, but the fact that Micky van de Ven is joint-top scorer in the league may cause some concern.
Alongside him is Richarlison, with the pair scoring three goals each, but it was recently reported that the striker is considering leaving the club, with our friends at TEAMtalk saying he has ‘said yes’ to rejoining Everton ahead of the January deadline.
They suggest that it will depend on what kind of deal the Toffees make, with Spurs only enjoying a departure if they can sign a striker of their own.
TB Football’s latest report suggests that Richarlison may not be able to move until at least the summer for two reasons.
Insider Graham Bailey said: “There is interest in Richarlison. He decided not to leave last summer as he was focused on earning game time at Tottenham and a place in the Brazil squad. Thomas Frank likes the player and he has started five league games and contributed five goals, showing he can play in Frank’s style.”
“Tottenham are looking at a new striker, but it remains to be seen whether that will happen in January. I think the left wing and centre-back positions are the priority at the moment, but that will probably be next summer (there is a possibility of signing a striker).”
It’s no wonder Frank didn’t want to see Richarlison leave. Given that that would make Van de Ven the biggest goal threat and the problem would arise because he is a defender.

But for Richarlison, the desire to return to Everton makes sense. Although he is Spurs’ top scorer in the league this season, the striker has never been as effective in north London as he was on Merseyside.
His best return in a Premier League season with Tottenham was 11, but he failed to reach double figures in his remaining two full seasons.
On the other hand, he has twice scored 13 goals in the league at Everton, and the Toffees may simply lack a good striker and have more quality now than they did back then.
