TrueCaller has stopped calling recording functions on iOS just two years after the feature was launched as the Swedish company chose to concentrate on its core services. Spam call battle.
On Friday, the company confirmed to TechCrunch that the call recording feature would no longer be available on iPhones from September 30th. Users with saved call recordings can download them to their devices, share them with email or messaging apps, or switch storage settings to iCloud to access the recordings even after the feature is unened.
Nakul Kabra, head of iOS at Truecaller, told TechCrunch that the company has made the decision because it wants to focus on live caller IDs and automatic spam blocking features.
In June 2023, TrueCaller reintroduced Android features and began recording iOS calls for paid subscribers. The app also received support for transcription of calls natively. Last year, call recordings and transcriptions were announced in India.
Call Recording works seamlessly on Android, but it’s more complicated on iOS where third-party apps cannot record calls natively on Apple’s operating system. To avoid this, TrueCaller uses a recording line that records calls, a way to increase both cost and complexity per cupra. These challenges ultimately resulted in a discontinuation of functionality.
The company has set up a support page that users can help if they face problems during the transition.
Truecaller’s move comes months after Apple introduced native call recording and transcription support for iPhone users with last year’s iOS 18.1 update. In native features, unlike TrueCaller, users do not need to connect to the record line and record calls. It also brings transcription with Apple Intelligence.

That being said, TrueCaller introduced call recording to tempt iPhone users first, as the Caller ID function is restricted in the free tier. Paid users also get real-time caller ID along with advanced and automatic spam blocking, Siri shortcuts, incognito mode and other features.
TrueCaller has around 3 million subscribers worldwide, but IOS accounts for 44% of total premium revenue, according to second quarter financial results (PDF).
