WASHINGTON (AP) – President Donald Trump posted on his social media site that a meeting between US and Chinese officials had worked well and that he had reached a deal about “a “specific” company that our country’s youth wanted to save.”
Trump’s comments suggest that the company is Tiktok, a social media company associated with China, and that US law requires it to stop selling or operating.
The Republican president repeatedly extended the fateful deadline for Tiktok, and when asked by a reporter on Sunday evening, he had not committed to the agreement. Trump also said he was talking to Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Friday.
There were no immediate confirmations from China.
Tiktok is one of over 100 apps developed by technology company Bytedance over the past decade. Founded in 2012 Headquartered in Beijing’s northwest Heidia district with Chinese entrepreneur Zhang Yiming.
