WASHINGTON (AP) – The White House on Thursday announced that construction of a massive new $200 million ballroom will begin in September, with preparations set to be ready for the president Donald Trump The term of office will end in early 2029.

Trump said he has been planning to build it for a while.
“They’ve been hoping for a ballroom in the White House for over 150 years, but no president was good at ballroom,” Trump told reporters Thursday. “I’m good at building things and we’re going to build quickly and on time. It’s going to be beautiful, top, top of the line.”
He said the new ballroom would not interfere with the mansion itself.
“It’s nearby, but I didn’t touch on it and I’m totally respectful to the existing building, which I am the biggest fan,” he said of the White House. “It’s my favorite place. It’s my favorite place. I love it.”
Trump said the ballroom would help the administration in the future.
“It’s going to be a great legacy project,” he said. “I think it’s really beautiful.”
A 90,000 square feet ballroom has been built, with the East Wing sitting with a seating capacity of 650 people. East Wing has several offices, including the First Ladies. The offices will be temporarily moved during construction, and the wings of the building will be modernised and renovated, said White House Press Director Karoline Leavitt.
“Nothing will be demolished,” she said.
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wills said his early career was the president of real estate and construction, and his White House is “fully committed” to working with the right organizations to maintain the “special history” of the mansion.
“President Trump is a builder of the heart and has an extraordinary eye for details,” Wills said in a statement.
Leavitt said at a briefing Thursday that Trump and other donors had pledged to raise about $200 million in construction costs. She didn’t name any of the other donors.

The president chose Washington-based McCrery Architects as the project’s lead architect. The construction team is led by Clark Construction. Engineering is provided by AECOM.
Trump has another project in mind. He told NBC News in an interview what he said was a “bad” modified bathroom in the famous Lincoln bedroom, and it was closer to the 19th century.
