Uber Eats will begin delivering food in the UK later this year in partnership with sidewalk delivery robot company Starship Technologies.
The companies plan to launch the service in December in the Leeds and Sheffield areas “from select merchants” and expand from there. Uber said the service will expand to “further European markets in 2026” and the U.S. in 2027.
The partnership with Starship is the latest in a growing number of partnerships Uber has entered into with self-driving vehicle companies of all shapes and sizes. But Starship isn’t the first sidewalk robot company to partner with Uber Eats. Uber’s food delivery division has been using Saab Robotics robots in the U.S. for several years, and Uber began using Avride sidewalk robots earlier this year.
Starship claims to have around 3,000 six-wheeled delivery robots operating in over 270 different locations around the world. The robots typically make deliveries within 30 minutes and travel within 2 miles.
