Untamed will back for another season. Netflix revealed Tuesday it has renewed the series, starring Eric Bana, for a second season.
Written by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, Untamed is a character-driven mystery-thriller that follows Kyle Turner (Bana), a special agent for the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. The investigation of a brutal death sends Turner on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past.
Sam Neill and Rosemarie DeWitt also starred in Season 1.
In Season 2, Bana returns to investigate a new mystery. At the end of Season 1, Turner finally left Yosemite National Park and hit the road, letting go of years of emotional baggage he had stored in the park’s wilderness.
“I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of Untamed to life,” Bana said in a statement. “The response to Season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.”
Initially planned as a limited series, the drama premiered to strong ratings, quickly rising to No. 1 on the Netflix’s English-language TV list following its July 17 launch.
“Elle and I envisioned it as a stand-alone, six episodes,” Mark Smith told Tudum of the first season. “But then the more that we got into it, it was just such a great cast … it was just like, ‘Oh yeah, how do we keep this going?’ ”
Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith serve as co-showrunners and executive produce alongside Bana, John Wells and Erin Jontow via John Wells Productions, Todd Black and Tony Shaw for Escape Artists Entertainment, Steve Lee Jones for Bee Holder Productions, and Cliff Roberts for Syndicate Entertainment. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
