Bournemouth winger Antoine Semeño was subjected to racist abuse on social media hours after fans abused him at Anfield.
The Bournemouth winger was preparing to throw in, so he stopped and saw one Liverpool fan before proceeding to the throw. A few minutes later, referee Antony Taylor went to the manager and the fourth official, explaining that the fans had finally removed it from the stadium.
Club captain Virgil van Dyke called it “an absolute dishonor,” but that alone wasn’t clear to the social media trolls who decided to post a monkey emoji on Semeño’s Instagram.
The 25-year-old screenshots an image of comments from one user using an offensive gesture with the caption “When will we stop…”.
Merseyside police are investigating the incident, pledging Liverpool’s support and denounces “all forms of racism and discrimination.”
Meanwhile, Van Dik called for the incident, saying Bournemouth, who scored two goals, had the support of the Liverpool squad.

“I had a lot of conversations with him about it and first and foremost wanted to know what happened. I’m happy that the authorities are dealing with it all. That’s the main thing,” Van Dik said.
“But we stand completely with him and I think everyone here will say the same thing. These things can’t happen, so whatever he needs to support, I’m here for him.
“We are here for him, but honestly, the club is also a club and they handle it the right way, and I am totally confident about it.
“The authorities in particular have to deal with it now and like I said, nothing of these things will happen.
“I can’t believe it. I can say it shouldn’t happen, but unfortunately it’s an absolute dishonor in my eyes.”
The 34-year-old kept saying racism “is not of this world.”
“First and foremost, these things should never happen in the world, not just in football, and I’m happy to say that we haven’t seen it happen to this day.
“But in general, racism isn’t in this world in my opinion, but if we are realistic, unfortunately, it still exists and that’s the dangerous aspect.
“We have to deal with it here. Like I said, I’m here for Antoine.
