Kobbie Mainoo hasn’t played for Manchester United this season for a minute. why?
The Manchester United midfielder stayed on the bench through a 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday, with Diogo Darott, Benjamin Sesco, Manuel Ugarte, Aiden Haven and Harry Maguire being asked to turn the game around.
As we said elsewhere, Reuben Amorim quickly wasted Arsenal’s goodwill as Manchester United sacrificed everything without doing anything.
Amorim was clearly asked why he didn’t use Mine in any of the team’s first two matches. Either a narrow home defeat to Arsenal or an away draw with Fulham.
“No, he’s fighting for his position with Bruno (Fernandez) now,” Amorim said.
“And we changed two midfielders. I like Mason Mount because I want to score goals. And if I change that, I felt the team needed to go back to one of the midfielders.
“So he (Mainoo) needs to fight for his position with Bruno in training. He should be at Manchester United.”
The problem with that situation is clear. Amorim never takes off Fernandez, even when he can see him struggling.
Fernandez missed a penalty against Fulham and Amorim after the game. “I don’t think he’s used to missing out on penalties. He knows that this moment can have a big impact on the team (and a) a big impact.
“He wasn’t involved during the game, he was so responsible and we thought it was a big deal for us to miss out on the penalty.”
Still, Mainoo hasn’t yet come out of the bench to replace Mainoo, suggesting he’s not fighting hard enough in training.
Former Manchester United player, critic and tireless self-promotioner Rio Ferdinand has his own theory that Mine is on the sidelines.
He stated on his YouTube channel:
“I had a debate. There are players who need a system to perform. There are great players that have in this country right now. I’ll experience some of them.
“I think Phil Foden needs a system to play, and I think they play to get the best and best they can play.
“Cole Palmer can go anywhere I think, go and play and become Cole Palmer. There’s a certain player who’s trying to do what they’re doing.”
