Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes Hugo Ekitike has a “bee on his hood” after being sent to Southampton on Tuesday night.
France International scored the winning goal as the Reds defeated the Championship side 2-1 in the League Cup after Shea Charles cancelled Premier League Champions’ first goal.
Liverpool striker Ekitique had already picked up reservations early in the match and was shown a second yellow card to undress his shirt in celebration of his goal.
Rather than celebrating with Federico Chiesa, Ekitique decides to score a goal for himself on the plate, celebrate himself in the corner, and show the crowd the name on the back of his shirt.
Slot told ITV:
“Maybe I’m a bit old, a bit old school, but if I scored the goal after hitting it in the top corner past three guys, I would have been totally celebrating myself.

“But if I had gotten such an assist from Federico Chiesa, I would probably turn around and point to him like, “Yeah, you’ve achieved this goal for me.”
“So I was a bit surprised at how he celebrated, and even worse, I took off his shirt and got a second yellow.
“Not only was it the second yellow, it’s always stupid to take a shirt off and take yellow.
“If you scored a goal like this, I’d have gone to the guy who assisted, but that’s not that important. It’s stupid to take your shirt off.”
In a slot comment, Murphy said on Talksport:
“After Chiesa put it on the plate for him, it was a tap. When he came, he appears to have a bit of a bee on his hood. That means he got off to a great start. The fans took him. He has five goals.”
When asked if it was a response to breathing through his neck, Murphy added:
As to whether he was disappointed with Ekichike, Murphy continued: “He’s a young guy. He’s emotional. That’s what he’s saying if that’s the worst thing he does in a Liverpool shirt, then no one cares, the actual output and goalscoring on the pitch is great.
“There were some positives, in fact, Southampton played a lot last night, and they give a good description of themselves.

Former Crystal Palace Chairman Simon Jordan praised Slot for his comment after the Liverpool boss called out Ekichike with his “silly” send-off.
When asked what he thought of Slot’s comments, Jordan replied. “Yes, I think it’s also a product of someone who controls the dressing room. You have a winning team, so he has a team that has gone through the door and won the league.
“They started their season with five wins in the Premier League. They are the top of the Premier League. They aren’t playing particularly well, but they’re still the top of the Premier League.
“I wonder if he had played these five games in his first season, and they hadn’t qualified… maybe he would.
“To be honest, it’s a bit of credibility. That’s what he thinks. It’s not something he thinks to say to put the dressing room on the side. That fun room is on the side. A.
“And that mentality is only allowed to you if you have the embarrassment of wealth, but nevertheless, it is great to put it all on one side and hear it.
“We also need to bend backwards to pamper the ego of a young player who can’t get a bit of criticism when he’s not stupid.
