The WWE is on a hot streak right now, as illustrated by its presence in Netflix‘s Top 10 English TV titles last week with not just one but two projects.
There was, of course, the weekly presence of Raw, which drew 2.7M views from July 28 to August 3 as the last Monday night event before the wrestling promo’s flashy two-day SummerSlam over the weekend in New Jersey. It placed eighth among English TV titles on Netflix, right about where it usually stands on a weekly basis. Raw has had a pretty constant presence among the streamer’s best performing titles since its Netflix premiere in January.
Coming in at No. 9 was WWE: Unreal where, for the first time, the company lifted the veil on its operations to let audiences behind-the-scenes on the previous “season,” culminating with April’s WrestleMania. With 2.3M views, the series’ debut performance is decent evidence that the WWE has captured a consistent audience on Netflix — one that is surely larger than the last few years of mostly cable programming.
While there were seven other TV titles that landed higher on the weekly rankings, this marks a noteworthy moment for the WWE as it continues to expand its operations and boost wrestling further into the cultural zeitgeist once again.
First place among English TV last week once again went to Untamed with another 12.2M views. That puts it at 59.6M total views since it premiered on July 17, which is quite a strong performance. At this rate, it definitely shows potential to unseat Stranger Things 3 to land among the Top 10 most popular series on Netflix.
The Hunting Wives is also continuing to put up a relatively strong performance, given that it is only available to U.S. subscribers. Up until around two months ago, the series was set for release on Starz, but now it has racked up another 5.8M views on Netflix, putting it at about 11M views overall.
The streamer’s most popular English-language series ever, Wednesday, flew back onto the Top 10 last week at No. 6 with 2.7M views, no doubt fueled by the incoming Season 2 premiere on August 6. Expect some big numbers from Season 2, though it’ll be very difficult to top Season 1’s mind boggling 252M views in its 91-day premiere window.
On the film side of things, Happy Gilmore 2 retained its No. 1 spot with another 40.8M views. That’s nearly 90M views in under two weeks, meaning the film is well on its way to a spot on the most popular film list. It’ll need to beat Damsel, currently at No. 10 with around 138M views, but it has around 80 days to make up the difference.
Speaking of the most popular film list, Kpop Demon Hunters has finally cracked the Top 10 as expected. With another 26.3M views this week, it has landed at No. 4 on the list with 158.8M total views since release. The film has been on a tear since its June 20 release, and it still has nearly half its premiere window to keep climbing.
