Saturday Night’s Main Event returned to strong audience ratings over the weekend.
The WWE‘s two-hour showdown brought in 2.3M viewers on NBC and Peacock. As expected, a majority of the audience came from the broadcaster, while about 700,000 tuned in via streaming.
This is the first Saturday Night’s Main Event since 2008, when 2.4M tuned in on NBC. The iconic event originally premiered in May of 1985 and, although it went on a bit of a hiatus over the past 16 years, it seems that it’s still a highly anticipated event for the WWE.
For comparison purposes, ABC’s showing of the NBA Cup game between the Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder drew 1.89M viewers.
Taking it back to where it all started, this year’s Saturday Night’s Main Event took place at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island — the site of the very first event.
Saturday Night’s Main Event will return quarterly with the next one set for January 25 on NBC.
