Meta’s X competitor, Threads, continues to release new features at a rapid pace. On the heels of the community’s launch and the disappearance of “ghost posts,” the social networking app on Thursday introduced new tools that give users more control over conversations on the platform.
One of our new features, Reply Approvals, lets you decide which replies from other people appear on your posts before they see them.
Threads, like other social networks, already offers tools that allow you to limit your replies to people you follow, follow, or mention, but the new feature allows you to keep your replies visible to everyone without the negative effect of derailing the discussion.

As the company explains, these tools help “set the tone of the conversation” and give users more options. This is a unique way to balance users’ interest in participating in a more public conversation, but the poster, rather than the person replying, still has the power.
Additionally, the company is rolling out new activity feed filters that will make it easier to see replies from people you follow, including replies and mentions. These join other options like verified, quoted, and reposted as other ways to filter replies.

Meta announced in its third quarter earnings call this week that Threads now has 150 million daily active users, up from more than 100 million in December 2024. In August, the company announced that its network also had more than 400 million monthly active users.
As the app grows, Meta is working to quickly monetize its traction and is currently rolling out advertising on the platform globally. We are currently working towards the launch of video advertising.
Threads also has more consumer features in the works, as Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced this week that Threads is testing controls that would allow it to adjust its algorithm by adding or removing topics based on users’ interests.
