Earlier this week, OpenAI launched a way for developers to build apps within ChatGPT. This allows users to prompt the Assistant to perform tasks and answer questions directly related to the app they are participating in.
Several companies, including Spotify, have launched interactive experiences that allow listeners to ask ChatGPT to create playlists, recommend songs, and more.
Mention Spotify in the ChatGPT prompt and you’ll be given the option to connect your account. At the bottom of the page you’ll see a button that says “Use Spotify for this answer.” Connecting your account gives the AI access to data like your likes and viewing history, providing relevant context to help generate better answers.

From there, you can ask for recommendations for tracks, artists, playlists, and podcast episodes based on your preferences.
You can enter as much detail in the prompt as you want. For example, you can create a playlist with a specific mood in mind, choose the events you want for your playlist, request that it only include the artists you listen to the most, the genres you like the most, and more. It also asks for your desired length, which can help you plan a playlist for long drives.
During our test, we asked them to create a dog-walking playlist, and all songs had to have “dog” in the title. Here’s what I came up with:

Tapping on a suggested track or podcast episode will open the Spotify app where you can listen or watch directly from there.

ChatGPT also has the ability to perform actions within Spotify on your behalf, such as controlling playback. Add and remove items from your library. Create, edit and follow private playlists. and manage your follow list.
Please note that by connecting your Spotify account, you agree to the app’s privacy policy.
This policy contains important information about data sharing and security and states that in the event of a security breach at ChatGPT, your data is at risk of being accessed by unauthorized parties. In addition to giving ChatGPT access to your data (what songs and podcasts you’re playing, what’s in your Spotify library, who you follow, etc.), you’ll also provide your IP address and approximate location.
However, you can disconnect your Spotify account at any time.
Additionally, Spotify explained in a blog post that content from artists and creators will not be shared with OpenAI for training purposes. All music, podcasts, and other audio or video content on the platform will remain protected.

This feature is available to all ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro users on web and mobile in 145 English languages.
Both free and premium Spotify users can use this integration. However, the company says premium users will get a more customized experience.
Other companies like Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, and Zillow are also integrating their apps with ChatGPT. With this integration, you can, for example, ask Coursera to tell you something or search Zillow for apartments in a certain price range in your area.
