EXCLUSIVE: Jack Falahee (How to Get Away with Murder), Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children), Chris Noth (Sex and the City) and newcomer Saphira Moran are set to topline The Block, a supernatural thriller directed and produced by Emmy nominee Craig Singer (6:45), which has wrapped production.
Marking Singer’s fifth collaboration with writer Robert Dean Klein (6:45, Dark Ride), the film follows Mitch James (Falahee), who was once the golden boy of horror fiction, until an unshakable writer’s block brought his meteoric rise to a halt. Years later, with his career in ruins and only his fiercely devoted fan and partner Natalie (Moran) by his side, Mitch stumbles into a dark and inexplicable event, after which, the words begin to flow again. But inspiration proves fleeting and something shadowy and malevolent seems to be demanding more in return. As Mitch becomes entangled in a chilling cycle of creation and consequence, the true cost of his craft may be far greater than he ever imagined.
“The question of what an artist is willing to do or how far he’s willing to go to realize his vision is always something that fascinated me,” Singer told Deadline. “The Block gave me an opportunity to explore that very topic in a deeply psychological, personal and meaningful way.”
Hailing from Three 777 Film, Inc. and Cascrator Films, the indie also stars Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier) Thomas G. Waites (6:45), Armen Garo (6:45), Gabrielle Lee (Chicago P.D.), and Elias Koteas (Chicago P.D.). Maria Jorjezian and Gigi A. Boyle served as co-producers.
Best known for starring opposite Viola Davis on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder, Falahee has recently been seen in NBC’s Grosse Pointe Society and numerous indies. He is repped by Buchwald, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Known for films like Watchmen, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Little Children and Shutter Island, Haley recently played J. Edgar Hoover on Nat Geo’s Genius and stars opposite Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry in Netflix’s The Union. He is repped Gersh, Leslie Allan-Rice Management, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
For Noth, who played Mr. Big on Sex and the City, recent credits include The Equalizer, And Just Like That…, Gone, Tyrant, and The Good Wife, where he starred as Peter Florrick. He’s repped by Principal Entertainment LA.
Moran co-stars alongside Russell Crowe, Dan Macpherson and Luke Hemsworth in the upcoming MMA action flick, The Beast in Me. She is repped by Victoria Jackson Management.
A Telly- And Webby Award-winner, Singer is best known for founding FanLib and My2Centences, companies acquired by Disney, where he at one point served as creative VP. His work as a filmmaker includes Animal Room with Neil Patrick Harris, Perkins’ 14, Dark Ride, Tribeca’s A Good Night to Die, and the 2021 temporal horror pic, 6:45.
Klein is repped by Zero Gravity Management.
