Daniel Sloss’s ‘Hubris’ Special Sets Streaming Premiere Date

EXCLUSIVE: Award-winning Scottish comedian Daniel Sloss has announced that his fifth stand-up special, Hubris, is set to premiere exclusively on his website at 6pm UK (UTC) this Saturday, December 21.

Lauded by the ancient Greeks, hubris is the devastating, dangerous and of course exciting characteristic which often led to the hero’s downfall. Sloss’ latest is described as a show that doesn’t require a trigger warning — which could be said of all the work for which he’s become known. Check out a trailer for the special above.

Hubris emerged from an idea Sloss had in 2020, to film the entire evolutionary process of generating material for the new show he was creating. Longterm collaborator, housemate, and cinematographer Troy Edige followed him and his jokes from the first idea at the kitchen table, to the pre-pandemic try-outs of what were then still just raw ideas in Edinburgh, to February work in progress in New York and Los Angeles, to getting back home to Scotland just before the world locked down, through socially distanced shows in London carparks (which of course were in the rain) and being quarantined in a Sydney hotel, before being allowed to tour Australia, and all the way through to full-blown global touring as the lockdowns were gradually lifted.

Pollstar’s mid-year report listed Hubris as 2021’s biggest global comedy show and the fifth biggest ticket-selling event overall, on a list also including outdoor festivals. He taped the show in front of a still-masked audience at Glasgow’s much-loved and iconic SEC Armadillo venue in August of that year.

The creator of 14 solo shows, Sloss began writing and performing stand-up in 2007, at the age of 17, and now tours non-stop throughout North America, the UK, Ireland, Australia, Asia, and more than 40 European countries. Presenting a new live show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival each year for 11 years, he ran his 10th live solo hour, Daniel Sloss: X, at the 2018 festival, before premiering it on HBO.

Previously, Sloss also debuted the special Socio via his website, seeing Netflix unveil his live shows, Daniel Sloss: Dark (2015) and Daniel Sloss: Jigsaw (2016), in 190 countries and 26 languages. In April and May of this year, he toured his new show, Daniel Sloss: Can’t, to theaters across North America after touring the show in theaters throughout India, Australia, Europe, and Canada.

Sloss is represented by CAA, as well as Marlene Zwickler & Associates in the UK.
