EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures is in early development on a project inspired by fitness icon Jake Steinfeld’s life that will be produced by Frank Marshall. Sources say the no talent is involved at this time and the studio will now look to find a writer to adapt the story.
Universal pictures had no comment.
While plot details are unknown Steinfeld is considered an icon in the personal fitness movement. He created the personal fitness training industry over 40 years ago and has been the guiding light for health & wellness in lifestyle, sports, and entertainment ever since. The dominant force in direct-to-consumer sales of home fitness equipment for over a decade. He had the most profitable string of hits in the infomercial industry and spent fifteen years on Home Shopping Network promoting his Body by Jake brand.
Famous training such celebrities as Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford ( specifically on the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom set) Steinfeld would become one of the more high-profile trainers of the 80s. He also had a segment on CNN entitled Fitness Break by Jake in the early 80’s that encouraged audiences nationally to get off the couch and move.
He also wrote, produced and starred in a hilarious one man show called No Expectations at the MGM’s Hollywood Theater in Las Vegas.
Utilizing his entrepreneurial street-smarts, he created the first 24-hour fitness & lifestyle television network, FiTTV, which he later sold to News Corp. Understanding that childhood obesity was becoming an epidemic in America, he declared war on the disease and vowed to make a real difference. He became Chairman of the California Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness & Sports® under Governor Schwarzenegger in 2006 and served until 2011 under Governor Brown. By inspiring millions to live life with a “DON’T QUIT!” attitude, he established California as the nation’s first fitness state.
Some of the films he produced included The Grizzlies, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival(TIFF.) It’s a DGC award winner for Best Director as well as winner of numerous film festivals Audience Awards.
