EXCLUSIVE: Jack Henry Robbins is teaming with 20th Television to develop Nepo Baby, a new comedy series for Hulu, based on his viral character.
In the show created by Robbins, the world’s least successful nepo baby, Jack Henry Robbins, attempts to make it big and grow up all on his own no matter what it takes (with help from his famous parents).
Robbins based it on his “nepo baby” alter ego, which was made famous on social media via a series of viral videos, as well as through last year’s much circulated New York Times feature story, “His Parents Are Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. That’s the Joke.”
Sam Zvibleman (Pen15) is on board to direct and will exec produce alongside Peter Principato, Bryan Walsh, and Casey Neumeier at Artists First.
For Robbins, Nepo Baby comes on the heels of his directorial debut, VHYes, which is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and was released by Oscilloscope in 2020. Premiering at Fantastic Fest, the film is described as a bizarre, retro comedy shot entirely on VHS and Betamax that follows 12-year-old Ralph as he accidentally records home videos and his favorite late-night shows over his parents’ wedding tape. What We Do in the Shadows standout Mark Proksch was joined in the cast by Kerri Kenney and Thomas Lennon of The State.
Robbins’ short films Painting with Joan and Hot Winter both premiered at Sundance. On the television side, he got his start with the live-action pilot Ultimate Ultimate, produced by Comedy Central and distributed by Funny or Die. He has also served as a segment director on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Verve recently signed the multi-hyphenate filmmaker, who continues to be represented by Artists First, as well as Brecheen Feldman Breimer. Zvibleman is repped by Iconoclast and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
