Fox is heading into the snakepit for its latest reality order.
The network has handed a greenlight to The Snake, a social experiment competition series hosted by edgy standup comedian Jim Jeffries.
The series, which will premiere this summer, comes from Jersey Shore creator SallyAnn Salsano and her 495 Productions banner.
The Snake will follow 15 people from various professions trying to manipulate their way to becoming that week’s snake, who decides who stays and who leaves the show, through a series of challenges. Each week, the winner of each challenge earns control of ‘The Saving Ceremony’, an elimination that is about who will save certain contestants with people making friends, faking friends, or sparking romantic connections with the winner taking home $100,000.
Salsano will serve as showrunner and will exec produce alongside Frank Miccolis and Kim Green.
“SallyAnn brings her uniquely original voice to Fox with this fresh take on the strategy competition series and a universally appealing concept that will captivate audiences,” said Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn.
“I’m thrilled to be hosting The Snake. A show about making friends and faking friends,” added Jefferies. “I’ve been training for this job my whole life. Growing up In Australia, and now living in Hollywood, I’ve been around plenty of snakes.”
