From Lionsgate TV and showrunner John Glenn, Robin Hood is described as a sweeping, romantic adventure, a modern take of the classic tale that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian.
In the series, following the Norman invasion of England, Rob (Patten) – a Saxon forester’s son – and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord – fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom. As Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian infiltrates the power at court, as both work together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land.
Peckham will play Priscilla of Nottingham, the Sheriff’s daughter who understands the rules of power and plays them to her advantage. Waddington will play the Earl of Huntingdon, a ruthless Norman lord and the father of Maid Maria. Fraser will play Little John, Robin’s most loyal ally. Castle-Doughty will play Friar Tuck, a principled young monk who aligns himself with Robin Hood’s outlaws in pursuit of true justice. Rowley will play Will, a young man caught between two worlds who wants belonging, respect, and a future beyond the shadows of the forest. Bean plays the Sheriff of Nottingham.
The role of Marian has previously been played on screen by such actresses as Audrey Hepburn, Olivia de Havilland, Cate Blanchett, Uma Thurman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Eve Hewson and Lucy Griffiths.
Jonathan English is directing the pilot for Robin Hood and serves as producing director on the 10-episode season, which just started production in Belgrade, Serbia. Lieberman executive produces for Hidden Pictures. In addition to premiering on MGM+ in the U.S., Robin Hood will be available on MGM+ platforms in the UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, Latin America, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
