Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis stepped out onto the Caesars’ Colosseum stage this afternoon to kick off Disney’s CinemaCon presentation and introduce the first footage for Freakier Friday. The sequel to their 2003 body-swap comedy has an August 8 domestic release scheduled.
The story picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.
Lohan enthused today that it was “amazing to be back in Anna and Tess’ shoes,” even though they spend more time in more shoes. Explained Curtis, “This Friday is even freakier because this time we have double the swaps.”
Curtis added, “You’ll get to see me like you’ve never seen me before thanks to a very aggressive teenage makeover.” That makeover was seen in the footage seen today which was the first extended glimpse at the movie shared with an audience. It showcased a scene of Lohan and Curtis struggling to reckon with their swapped personae, as Lohan tries to recall what dating was like as a teenager and Curtis is wooed by a younger man.
The film also stars Vanessa Bayer, Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Rosalind Chao and Mark Harmon.
Nisha Ganatra directs, based on the book Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers. The film is produced by Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn and Curtis, with Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin and Lohan serving as executive producers.
