Mark Ghanimé Exits As Series Regular After 3 Seasons

SPOILER ALERT: The story includes a detail about Season 6 of Netflix‘s Virgin River.

Mark Ghanimé is leaving Virgin River as a series regular. Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith confirmed the departure in a wide-raging interview with Deadline addressing Season 6 and 7 burning questions.

The news is not surprising. After Ghanimé’s character Cameron reconnected with his ex-fiancee in the Season 5 finale, he has barely been on the show, only making a couple of trips to Virgin River in Season 6 from San Diego where the two are trying to rebuild their relationship.

Cameron’s last scene in the Season 6 finale felt like a farewell when he declined a dance with former flame Muriel to head back home, promoting her to ask (for all of us), “So this is goodbye?”

But this may not be the last time we see Cameron on Virgin River.

“Cameron will always be part of our world, and I would love to see his character come back again,” Smith told Deadline. “He unfortunately won’t be a series regular in Season 7, but I love Mark, and I love the character, so when opportunity presents itself, I’d love to have him back.”

Ghanimé joined Virgin River as series regular in Season 4. His brash Dr. Cameron Hayek started off as a villain, trying to break Mel and Jack up after falling for his nurse. Cameron went on a redemption arc in Season 5 after moving past his unrequited love for Mel, embarking on a touching romance with Muriel.

Canadian actor Ghanimé, also known for his lead role on the Syfy series Helix, is currently seen starring in the Hallmark Mystery holiday movie A Dance in the Snow.
