EXCLUSIVE: Paul Ben-Victor (Nobody Wants This) is set for a key recurring role opposite Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre in HBO’s upcoming drama series Lanterns, based on the Green Lantern DC comic.
The series, from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King, follows new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Ben-Victor willl play Antaan, an extraterrestrial devoted to exposing the truth and exacting vengeance against those who wronged his people. Consumed by a deep and unrelenting hatred for the law, he is determined to deliver justice on his own terms.
In addition to Pierre and Chandler, Ben-Victor joins previously announced cast Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan and Ulrich Thomsen. Jasmine Cephas Jones, Sherman Augustus, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Jason Ritter, Nathan Fillion and Chris Coy recur.
HBO produces the eight-episode series Lanterns in association with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. Mundy, who serves as showrunner, Lindelof, and King co-wrote and executive produced. James Hawes directed the first two episodes and executive produced, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov also tapped to direct.
Best known for his work on HBO’s The Wire and Vinyl, Ben-Victor recurs as Ilan Roklov on Netflix’s hit comedy Nobody Wants This and most recently was seen in a recurring role on Power Book III: Raising Kanan for Starz. He’ll next be seen recurring in Man On Fire for Netflix. His previous credits include Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer and Max’s Bookie. On the film side, he recently wrapped shooting Killing Castro opposite Al Pacino. Ben-Victor is repped by Alan Siegel Entertainment.
