‘Platonic’ Sets Season 2 Release Date At Apple; Teaser & First Photos

Apple TV+ has set an August date for the Season 2 premiere of Platonic, starring and exec produced by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. The 10-episode sophomore season will premiere globally on Wednesday, August 6 with the first two episodes, followed by one episode weekly until October 1. 

The streamer also released some first-look photos (see below) and a teaser (see above).

Co-created, directed and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Season 2 of Platonic picks up with everyone’s favorite pair of best friends (Rogen and Byrne) as they contend with new mid-life hurdles including work, weddings and partners in crises. The duo tries their best to be each other’s rock — but sometimes rocks break things.

The season two cast also includes Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo, and introduces Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett as guest stars.

Stoller and Delbanco spoke with Deadline last month about Season 2 at Contenders TV in Los Angeles, promising that fans can expect the same screw-ups out of Sylvia (Byrne) and Will (Rogen).

“These two characters have their insecurities and issues,” Stoller said at Contenders TV. “Those won’t be solved by a marriage and starting a wedding planning business. We’re all always the same messed up people at all times. No matter what you do, you’re still dealing with those issues.”

Delbanco and Stoller also confirmed the show would continue to live up to its title. Will and Sylvia will remain friends and Sylvia at least is happily married.

“It is the lowest fi idea in history,” Delbanco said. “There’s no suspense or tension about ‘Will they or won’t they?’ They’re just buddies. We thought it was important to try to represent that, the possibility that men and women can be friends with each other and those friendships can provide something friendships with your own gender can’t provide — or something extra.”

Byrne, Stoller, Delbanco and Conor Welch executive produce along with Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver for Point Grey Pictures. Sony PIctures Television is the studio.
