Karen Huger, star of The Real Housewives of Potomac, has been sentenced to two years in jail following her DUI conviction.
The Bravo star, known as the Grande Dame, had one of those years suspended and will only serve one year, according to Fox 5 DC.
Huger was found guilty on Wednesday, December 18, on five out of six charges following a March incident in Potomac, Maryland, that involved a car crash.
Huger was convicted of DUI, negligent driving, failure to control speed to avoid a collision, and failure to notify authorities of an address change, according to a report from Fox5 DC, who also noted that she was acquitted of reckless driving.
Following Huger’s conviction, police body cam footage was released on social media, showing the severity of the incident.
The reality TV personality skipped filming the Real Housewives of Potomac Season 9 reunion earlier this year. According to her representative, Huger had entered a recovery program before her sentencing.
“Karen made the important decision to enter a private recovery program, so was unable to attend the reunion taping today. She was fully supported in this choice,” Huger’s manager Ryan Tresdale told Bravo’s The Daily Dish. “We stand behind Karen as she embarks on this meaningful journey and are proud of her for taking such a significant step forward in her personal growth.”
Huger’s DUI incident loomed throughout Season 9 of RHOP, but the reality TV personality was limited in what she could say as it was an ongoing case. Although Huger’s co-stars tried to press her for more details, she maintained the truth would eventually be revealed.
