EXCLUSIVE: Can writing change the cultural conversation? That’s one of the questions that a new podcast from publishing company Rise Literary hopes to answer.
The company, which was founded by Kristen McGuiness, is launching Write the Good Fight. The series will feature folk from literature, publishing and the creative arts with Jon Bernthal, fresh from The Accountant 2, as one of its first guests.
The series, which launches on May 29, plans to “explore the power of storytelling in disrupting the status quo, enacting real change, and sharing how the craft of writing can change the cultural conversation”.
It will be hosted by McGuiness and her Rise Literary colleagues Lauren Porte Schwarzfeld, Elena Azzoni and Raya Whittington.
Bernthal, who is also in Daredevil: Born Again, will share personal stories about his own journey as a writer. Other guests include activist and author Myisha T Hill, who is the founder of Check Your Privilege, and a behind-the-scenes look at publishing with veteran agent Stacey Glick of Dystel, Goderich & Bourret as well as Mission Impossible actor Henry Czerny and Broadway star Krystal Joy Brown, Emmy-nominated producer Joy Gorman, songwriter and author Sam Hollander, and national bestsellers Jennifer Pastiloff and Janelle Brown.
Rise Literary will be hosting an event to kick off the launch of the podcast at the Ojai Playhouse on June 2 with Bernthal and authors Gertrude Lyons and Rob Bell.
“In a time when voices are silenced and stories are manipulated, writing is one of the last pure forms of resistance,” said McGuiness. “This podcast is our call to arms—for every storyteller who’s ever felt like their truth didn’t matter. It does. And we’re here to prove it.”
