EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures Entertainment has hired two key strategy executives to round out the team reporting to Jay Levine, Chief Strategy Officer & Business Operations.
Eric Marcotte, a longtime Disney and Fox exec, is joining as EVP of Corporate Strategy and DJ Jacobs, who has held posts at Hartbeat, Riot Games and MRC, is coming aboard as EVP of Business Operations. They will work alongside Maria Anguelova, EVP, Global Head of Corporate Development.
Levine shared the news with employees Wednesday in a memo obtained by Deadline. “I believe this leadership team will enable us to dynamically support growth within our business units, while accelerating SPE’s priorities,” he wrote.
Marcotte most recently led the strategy team at Disney’s General Entertainment Television Division. In his new role at Sony, Levine said, he will “be responsible for driving corporate-wide day-to-day strategic planning and identifying untapped market opportunities.” He will guide franchise management at the corporate level, co-ordinating with individual business units within the company.
Jacobs worked for nearly 25 years in media and entertainment, focusing on film, TV, music, games, sports, consumer products, and live events. At Hartbeat, Kevin Hart’s content company, he was CFO and head of strategy. He was head of strategy and business operations for the entertainment division of Riot Games, and Chief Strategy Officer and CFO for MRC, the production and financing company where he had a nine-year run.
At Sony, Jacobs will “oversee and execute key enterprise growth initiatives, drive material cross-divisional commercial partnerships, and coordinate cross-functional opportunities within SPE and across the broader Sony Group,” Levine explained.
Anguelova is continuing to lead all M&A, JV, investments, and divestitures activity across SPE.
“Naturally, Eric, DJ and Maria will work together very closely as we increase coordination and collaboration across the company,” Levine added.
