CBS will not be be back on top of the mountain after axing adventure reality competition series The Summit.
The show, which was hosted by Manu Bennett, has been canceled after only one season.
The cancelation has been clear for a while with the ten-part show, which is based on an Australian format, premiering in September and running through the beginning of December.
It followed sixteen strangers, who will embark on a journey through the New Zealand Alps in an attempt to reach the peak of a mountain. With their backpacks containing an equal share of $1M, the group had to traverse the distance in just 14 days in order to win the cash they are carrying. But not everyone will make it, as the strangers must worked together to tackle the terrain, Antarctic winds, challenges and eliminations on their way to the peak. Tracking them along this journey is the “Mountain’s Keeper” who will surprise the trekkers with twists and force decisions that complicate things. If the group fails to reach the summit in time, all the prize money will be lost.
The Summit was produced by Endemol Shine North America with Kevin Lee, Tina Nicotera, Sharon Levy and DJ Nurre as exec producers.
The show couldn’t reach the peak of other CBS adventure shows such as Survivor or The Amazing Race, which have both been on air for well over 20 years.
It joins other one season wonders on the network in recent years such as Buddy Games, The Real Love Boat, which was moved to Paramount+ after four episodes, Beyond The Edge, and Come Dance With Me.
The Summit marks the second cancelation announced today alongside scripted comedy series Poppa’s House, which also only ran for one season.
