FX has dropped the official trailer for Season 4 of Welcome To Wrexham docuseries, which follows Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds‘ historic Welsh community football club’s promotion as it enters a new and tough division.
Among their fierce opponents in the new division is Birmingham FC, whose co-owner happens to be Tom Brady. “He’s not playing – thank God,” says Reynolds as the trailer opens, then warily questions “Is he allowed to play?”
Wrexham players aren’t terribly confident that they can beat Birmingham. “Realistically, we’ll lose,” admits one of the Red Dragons as he holds a beer. “It’s a friendly competition,” says Brady. “Well, not friendly,” as we see a mini-brawl between some Wrexham and Birmingham players.
Per the logline, the 8-episode docuseries “will continue to follow McElhenney and Reynolds as they navigate running the 3rd oldest professional football club in the world.
“In 2020, McElhenney and Reynolds teamed up to purchase the 5th tier Red Dragons, hoping to turn the Club into an underdog story. The Club achieved back-to-back promotions to bring the Reds into the English Football League’s League One for the first time in 20 years. As they continue to rise in the pyramid, the stakes get higher with a new level of intensity, competition and costs, all while the Club continues to be plagued with injury and fans demand the signing of new talent. Dedicated staff and supporters celebrate the team’s climb toward the Premiership while bracing against the new-found challenges that come with each new tier up the EFL. Will Wrexham AFC rise to the challenge and do what no team has ever done before?”
Welcome to Wrexham Season 4 premieres May 15 at 9 pm on FX and streaming next day on Hulu.
Welcome to Wrexham is executive produced by McElhenney, Reynolds, Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, Ker, Nick Frenkel, George Dewey and Boardwalk Pictures’ Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, and Andy Thomas. The docuseries is produced by More Better Productions, Maximum Effort Productions, 3 Arts Entertainment and Boardwalk Pictures.
