EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video will scale The Summit with a host of German stars. The streamer has greenlit a German version of the adventure reality show, which sees contestants compete to ascend a mountain peak. They must safeguard backpacks, each stuffed with a €1M ($1.1M) in prize money, with the winner claiming the total in their pack. It will be the largest cash prize ever on German TV.
The German version will feature a dozen celebs. The cast includes actor and singer Felix von Jascheroff; model, actor and DJ Giulia Siegel; model and reality TV star Cecilia Asoro; and ex-footballer Ansgar Brinkmann. They will scale a mountain in New Zealand, where several international versions of the show are filmed.
Prime Video will announce the local edition of The Summit at its German programming presentation this evening. The deal for The Summit marks the eighth for a local version of the format. Originally created by Endemol Shine Australia and broadcaster Nine Network, Banijay Productions Germany will produce the latest version of the show. It will bow on Prime Video during the third quarter of this year.
The Summit was nominated for a 2024 International Emmy Award and was highlighted as one to watch in the international market by analysts at K7, with several local versions getting a green light.
“The Summit has been on our radar for some time, as we knew it would be a great fit for the German market,” said Katrin Stefanović, Managing Director, Banijay Productions Germany. “Get ready for high-stakes drama, intense strategy, and unforgettable adventure, set against a backdrop of stunning landscapes, as our celebrities faces one of their toughest challenges yet.”
