Elgin James‘ Prison Break pilot from Hulu and 20th Television has added some heavy hitters to its supporting cast, including Ray McKinnon (Mayans M.C., Deadwood), Margo Martindale (The Americans, Justified), Donal Logue (Duster, Sons of Anarchy), Lili Taylor (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Daredevil: Born Again) and Sylvester Powell (All American: Homecoming). Production is set to begin next week in West Virginia.
The project reunites McKinnon with James, who collaborated on Mayans M.C., which the latter co-created and the former starred in. McKinnon, who played the evil Lincoln Potter in Sons of Anarchy and its spinoff, Mayans M.C., will also reconnect with his former co-stars Clayton Cardenas and JR Bourne, who have series regular roles in the Prison Break pilot. McKinnon and Logue had major roles in FX’s hit biker drama Sons of Anarchy.
McKinnon will play Joe Dahl, a private detective investigating a decade-old murder.
Martindale will play Jessica Strand, the Warden of one of the deadliest prisons in America.
Logue will play Holt Keane, a father grieving the loss of his family.
Taylor will play Carole Mullen, a mother committed to finding the truth.
Powell will play Maze, an inmate and the younger brother of Red (Myles Bullock).
As we previously reported, James’ version will be its own thing and set within the same universe as the original FOX series of the same name from Paul Scheuring. This new project is not expected to involve the characters at the center of the OG project, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). The spinoff project was first revealed to be in development in late 2023 and was picked up to pilot in December.
The leading cast includes Emily Browning as Cassidy Collins, Lukas Gage as Jackson, Drake Rodger as Tommy, Cardenas as Ghost, Bourne as Junior, Myles Bullock as Darius ‘Red’ Lewis, Georgie Flores as Andrea, and, as we revealed exclusively yesterday, Priscilla Delgado as Cheyenne.
In addition to James, Dawn Olmstead, Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz executive produce.
The original Prison Break, which debuted in 2005, followed Michael Scofield (Miller), a young man determined to prove his convicted brother Lincoln Burrows’ (Purcell) innocence and save him from death row by hatching an elaborate plan to escape prison. The series aired on Fox for four seasons, followed by a made-for-TV film titled The Final Break, which aired in 2009, 12 days after the Season 4 finale.
A 2015 Prison Break sequel limited series starring Miller and Purcell, also on Fox, served as a fifth season. Prison Break was the No. 1 most-streamed series in the U.S. in August 2024, according to Nielsen. All episodes of the crime drama are available to stream on Hulu.
McKinnon is repped by Anonymous Content and Paradigm Talent Agency; Martindale is repped by Gersh; Logue is repped by Kipperman Management, Gersh, and RLG LLP; Taylor is repped by Independent Artist Group and Untitled Entertainment; Powell is repped by Pakula/King and Associates and The Rosenzweig Group.
